Volcano alert level downgraded for Mt. Hakoneyama

The Japan Meteorological Agency lowered its volcanic eruption alert for Mount Hakoneyama on Sept. 11, removing a ban on entry to the mountain that straddles Kanagawa and Shizuoka prefectures.
The agency downgraded its warning from Level 3 to Level 2, which regulates entry to the crater area.
Many "onsen" hot spring resorts and tourist sites are located in the vicinity of the mountain.

It was the first time the eruption warning was lowered to Level 2 since a small-scale eruption on June 30.Volcanic activity at Mount Hakoneyama began intensifying in late April. Volcanic tremors were recorded 603 times on June 30. Two small-scale eruptions occurred by July 1. The frequency of volcanic tremors dissipated afterward, and not a single tremor was recorded for several days in September.
