Super Mario Bros. turns 30


“Super Mario Bros.,” Nintendo Co.’s globally popular video game, celebrated its 30th birthday .A total of 32 video games in the Super Mario series have sold more than 310 million copies worldwide. The series worked as the driving force to spread Japan’s video game culture to the rest of the world.







“Super Mario Bros.” is an action video game in which players manipulate protagonist Mario and his younger brother Luigi to rescue the heroine Princess Peach while defeating mushroom-shaped Goomba, Bowser and other enemies. The first version went on sale in 1985 for the Family Computer, a game console for household use, becoming a huge hit that sold more than 40 million copies. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of “Super Mario Bros.,” Nintendo put “Super Mario Maker” on sale for the nonportable Wii U game console .
