Japan seeks more foreign tourists

Japan is seeing a surge in foreign tourists this year. But its government wants to attract even more.
Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga has suggested launching a new government council, to be chaired by the prime minister, to study how to encourage more people to visit Japan.

In a speech in Tokyo on Friday, Suga said the number of foreign tourists is up nearly 50 percent from 2014. He said the figure has already topped 15 million this year and is estimated to reach 19.5 million for the full year.
