Canal City Hakata
Canal City Hakata is a shopping and commercial district which opened in 1996. It includes shopping malls, cinemas, theaters, hotels, and office buildings. The colorfully decorated buildings are separated into 5 zones and through the middle of the district runs a canal.
The concept of Canal City Hakata is "urban theater". Water fountain shows, stage shows and other entertainment provide for a fun outside of shopping. Seasonal decorations and displays such as holiday season decorations and Hakata Gion Yamakasa Festival decorations, are a feast for the eyes. Canal City Hakata has a wide variety of shops from men's, women's, children's clothing, handbags, shoes, accessories, household items, character goods, to local souvenirs.
Restaurants range from fast food to full-service, and include ethnic foods, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, izakaya (Japanese-style tavern), cafes, and many other establishments. Additionally, ramen noodle shops representing each area of Kyushu can be found, as well as takoyaki (Octopus dumpling), yakisoba (Fried noodles), curry, omelet rice and other B-Kyu gourmet foods (Comfort foods). Restaurant operating hours are 11:00AM to 11:00PM, some exceptions apply.
