Paddy art attracts visitors in northern Japan


Tourists are flocking to a village in northern Japan to see a work of art in rice paddy fields that uses colored strains of rice.Inakadate Village in Aomori Prefecture annually recreates famous pictures in paddies to increase the area's appeal to tourists and spur the local economy.








Among pictures on display this year is a scene from the US film "Gone with the Wind."The paddy next to the village office measures 140 meters long and 100 meters wide. 10 kinds of rice plants of various colors were used to depict the heroine Scarlett O'Hara in the arms of her hero Rhett Butler.
