First cherry blossoms of season seen in Kagoshima

Weather officials in Kagoshima city, southwestern Japan, say cherry blossoms have bloomed in the city - the first of the season anywhere in the country.A warm air mass flowing in from the south pushed temperatures above 20 degrees Celsius in Kagoshima Prefecture this week. That is 5 days earlier than average and one day later than last year.

Forecasters say it will feel like early April in the prefecture on Saturday.The Kagoshima Meteorological Office says it confirmed 5 blossoms on a cherry tree in Kagoshima city on Saturday morning.
