Cherry blossoms were in full bloom in Tokyo and in Fukuoka City, southern Japan, on Sunday. The flowers have bloomed 5 days earlier than usual in Tokyo and 3 days earlier in Fukuoka.Weather officials said prefectures on the Pacific coast had some rainfall, but the high for central Tokyo was 21.1 degrees Celsius.
Temperatures in many places rose to levels normally observed from late April to mid-May. The mercury hit 25.2 degrees Celsius in Kagoshima City, southern Japan.In Yamanashi Prefecture, west of Tokyo, weeping cherry trees are almost in full bloom at Minobusan Kuonji Temple in Minobu Town. The trees are believed to be about 400 years old.Officials say that visitors will be able to enjoy viewing the cherry blossoms until the end of this week.
